Slater is ace at Perranporth

Grant Slater (Trevose) made an ace at the 128-yard sixth hole on his way to victory in the Cornwall Alliance meeting on a windy and wet day at Perranporth.

The hole is named Subtle Stroke and Slater’s wedge proved to be decisive as he pipped Mark Rowe (Carlyon Bay) by one shot for the individual medal prize on level par 72 worth 36 stableford points.

Chris Gill (Newquay), James Ruth (China Fleet), Andy Welch (Whitsand Bay), Scott Richards (Truro) and Richard O'Hanlon (St Kew) shared third a further shot behind.

Truro amateurs Darrah Dunleavy and Jack Mewton (Truro) carded 41 points to beat Carlyon Bay professional Paul Turpin and amateur Dave Saget on countback.  Alliance captain Chris Gill his Newquay amateur Ashley Fieldhouse were placed third on countback one point behind.
