Talented young WelshmanToby Hunt (St Mellons) achieved back-to-back victories in the latest West Region PGA outings. He started by winning at Cumberwell Park in the Sprint Series for young players followed by further success in the PGA West’s Captain’s Charity event at Filton the next day.
He dominated Giuseppe Licata’s big day with a scintillating six-under-par 64. He announced himself by starting with six successive birdies and remained two shots clear on a successful day which attracted entries from 28 regional professionals and their teams.
Lee Corfield (Burnham and Berrow) finished two shots behind while the leading Dorset duo, last year’s captain Paul Jones (Ashley Wood) and Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre), shared third on 67.
Leading Devon player Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) was fifth one shot further back while Scott Drummond from Plymouth, George Ryall (Mendip Spring) and Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) continued their impressive early season form in sixth.
Hunt’s total of eight birdies helped his team of Darren Mcgee, Mark Ford and Ian Wilde claim the team award on 19-under-par 91.
David Finch (Cleeve Hill) was second on 90 with Oliver Finch, Dave Jervis and Andy Creswell.
Louis Boston (Chippenham) and Chris Foran, Rich Slade and Rob Howard were third a further shot behind.
Licata’s charity this year is Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He said: ”I just want to thank everybody who made it such a great day and I think we could have raised between £3,000 and £4,000.”
