Set up by the dynamic duo of Chris Evans (Tandridge) and Matt Paget (Royal Mid-Surrey), the eighth Sunshine Pro-Am has raised a very impressive £5,800 for Kent based charity Demelza House, and a further £1,100 for the British Heart Foundation.
Over the past eight years, the Sunshine Pro-Am has now raised well over £20,000 for the region’s selected charity.
Played in the first week of February, the invitation-only five round tournament, now assisted by The PGA in England (South), gave the 23 four man teams a choice: Quinta do Lago’s North and South courses, two trips to nearby Laranjal, or one more on Quinta’s South course for good measure.
First place was shared between Rob McGuirk (Prince’s) and Paul Page (West Malling) who both shot a total of five-under-par 283 for their selected four rounds, taking home a cool £875 each.
The Sunshine Pro-Am has always aimed at being primarily a fund raising event, with a midweek auction gala dinner as well as the golf.
To raise funds at the 2015 event, the region’s latest European Tour star Matt Ford (CK Group) donated two days of his time so that he and a team of three can play at the high profile The London Club, and another team can join him for a day at the Open qualifying links course, Littlestone.
This year saw an additional fund raising opportunity for the British Heart Foundation, an idea borne of Evans’s own experience from his own son who needed heart surgery last December. As the British Heart Foundation’s golf day happened to fall on the same week, 96 red caps, sourced by the dynamic duo from Titleist, were also auctioned to raise £1,100 for this charity.
