Tim Cooper produced a splendid one-under-par round of 67 to win the season opening Suffolk PGA pro-only medal at Aldeburgh.
The Newton Green head pro’s four birdies in spring-like conditions enabled him to beat Neil Mitchell (Bury Golf Range) by a single shot. Mitchell had an excellent back nine of 31.
Lawrence Dodd (Bury Golf Range), the key man in the Suffolk team which won the inaugural SkyCaddie PGA England and Wales Inter-County Championship at The Belfry last October, was round in 71.
Aldeburgh’s Keith Preston and Simon Reeve, together with Tony Dobson (Stonham Barns), signed for 73.
Andrew Collison (Bungay and Waveney Valley) holed out for a birdie from a bunker at the 160-yard 17th hole where Cooper, Dobson and Ed Garrard (Rookery Park) also claimed birdies. Other scores were 75 from Paul Wilby (Haverhill) and Robert Joyce (Felixstowe Ferry), 76 from Kelvin Vince (Rushmere) and 77 from Garrard.
The next Suffolk PGA pro-only event will be at Thorpeness on March 31.
