After day two at the 31st PGA Cup, Team Great Britain and Ireland trail Team USA 4-12, with Team USA only requiring one point on the final day to retain the Llandudno Trophy.
Despite the amount of points gained, Team Great Britain and Ireland have played excellent golf during the event. Toby Hunt, who has played alongside Colm Moriarty in both the fourballs and foursomes, said: “We were eight under this morning and the guys birdied the last to beat us. We dovetailed really well this morning. Then this afternoon, we were solid - we didn't really give them much and that's what you've got to do in foursomes.”
Hunt and Moriarty secured one of Great Britain & Ireland’s three points on Saturday with a 1up win over John Somers and Matt Cahill in their afternoon foursomes match. Hunt added: “We’re absolutely buzzing to get a point on the board, the first one for us for the PGA Cup. I've got to thank Colm - he was so solid all day. I think we gelled really well - a couple of putts went in, we had a filthy up and down on 16, which was after a horrendous tee-shot from me! He knocked it into 4-foot and I ended up holing it, so we went one up there and then hit a great shot down the last after an eventful seventeenth!”
Team Captain Tim Rouse remains positive heading into the Sunday singles matches. He said: “Obviously we're up against it. The Americans have putted off the planet this week. We've got to win just about every point in the singles, but it's been done before. We're all proud to be part of this team - the players have played so well, it's unbelievable. We've not had a weak link in the team at all. The result doesn’t reflect how well my team have played, but we're looking forward to the singles. We're going to fight like hell and we're going to close that gap and put a lot more blue on the board.”
