The PGA in Surrey has set up a pro-am tournament that reinforces the value coming from club managers and head PGA Professionals working together as a team.

The event, called the Teamwork Trophy, is supported by club software specialist MHS Group and will be staged at Woodcote Park Golf Club on March 23rd.

It will be contested by clubs in Surrey entering a team comprising their manager/secretary and head PGA Professional playing together.

There will be prizes for the top three pairs and entries to take part should be sent to Woodcote Park secretary Adrian Dawson.

Dawson will be playing with Surrey PGA captain Wraith Grant on their home course and the tournament is a result of them working closely together for 14 years.

“He’s the ideas man, and I’m the one who makes those ideas happen,” Dawson said. “To prove our point, for the first time in a decade Woodcote Park Golf Club’s now achieved full membership.

“That’s the direct result of Wraith’s idea to create an academy many years ago, now run by Ben St John. It has generated at least 50 per cent of all our new members.

“Consequently our bottom line’s in great shape. We’re generating profits on both bar and catering and revenues from green fees, societies are all up. The club’s always invested in the course, but more recently we’ve been able to spend half a million pounds on refurbishing the clubhouse.

“All of this has come out of the fact that Wraith and I enjoy a great working relationship. When I speak to his PGA colleagues and mine at the GCMA, they all agree this is the way forward.

“That’s why to promote and celebrate this approach to golf club management, we’re delighted to be hosting the inaugural Teamwork Trophy for the PGA in Surrey,”

Please contact Adrian Dawson on info@woodcotepgc.com or call him on 020 8668 2788 if you are interested in taking part in the Teamwork Trophy.
