A limited number of spaces are still available to tee up alongside a former Ryder Cup captain at one of Scotland’s most prestigious pro-ams.
Bernard Gallacher (right, alongside Jennifer Nicol, Tomatin marketing manager and Stephen Bremner, Tomatin sales director) will head up a field of almost 300 golfers in the Tomatin Single Malt Homecoming Pro-Am across three of Scotland’s finest links courses this autumn.
He will captain one of the 70-plus teams competing in the £60,000 event, to be played over Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart and The Nairn Golf Club on September 30 – October 2.
The event, which will take place just days after the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, will help to raise funds for Gallacher’s life-saving defibrillator campaign.
The 65-year-old is currently aiming to secure funds for the installation of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at every golf club in the British Isles after his life was saved by one of the machines during a cardiac arrest last August.
He said: “I am looking forward to playing three of my favourite courses and would like to thank Tomatin for giving us all the opportunity to enjoy this experience.”
The prestigious annual event is estimated to generate about £200,000 for the Highland economy.
It is open to teams from anywhere in the world consisting of three amateurs (ladies or gentlemen) plus a professional of their choice. Teams that do not include a pro are allocated a leading player from the Professional Golfers’ Association Scotland Order of Merit.
As part of the occasion tutored whiskey tasting will be offered at the historic Inverness Town House.
And following the final round there will be a gala dinner for all competitors at the prestigious Kingsmill Hotel.
Royal Dornoch - One of the hosts to this year's event, described by US Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson as: "The most fun I have ever had playing golf."
Stephen Bremner, Tomatin’s sales director, said: “We are delighted that Bernard Gallacher is leading a team in the Pro-Am this year as his worldwide reputation will add to the prestige of this competition.
“The tournament is already popular with professional and amateur golfers alike as it is played over three of Scotland’s best links courses, and Bernard’s involvement raises the event’s status to another level.”
Brian Mair, secretary of The PGA in Scotland, expressed his gratitude to Tomatin for their continued support of this great event, now in its third year. He said: “In this momentous year for Scottish golf, the Tomatin Homecoming Single Malt Pro-Am will be a fitting event to follow the Ryder Cup, a real celebration of all that is great in Scotland – great golf and wonderful whisky.”
