Powell swops China for Warwickshire

Jason Powell has swopped working at the largest golf club in the world for the challenge of growing the game in Warwickshire.

Powell has returned to the UK after a lengthy spell as head PGA Professional at the Royal Moon Bay Country Club, China, and will be offering free coaching at three of the region’s golf centres.

The free coaching will be on offer until September at Harborne Church Farm Golf Centre, Birmingham; Tudor Grange Pitch and Putt, Solihull; and War Memorial Park Pitch and Putt, Coventry.

Powell will also guide new players around the courses and there will be the opportunity to sign up for a the Play and Reward loyalty card offered by nine local clubs.

In addition to Harborne, Church Farm, these are: Hatchford Brook, Robin Hood, Widney Manor, Coventry Hearsall, The Warwickshire, Brandon Woods, Stonebridge and Edgbaston.

The initiative is part of Warwickshire’s Summer of Golf programme and being run in collaboration with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Coventry City Council and Mytime Active, operators of Harborne Church Farm.

Commenting on his involvement, Powell said: “It was a great experience working abroad with the largest golf club in the world but now I’m looking forward to passing on my knowledge and experience to help grow the game, here in Warwickshire.”
