The PGA national tournament schedule for 2025 has now been confirmed, with several of the season's biggest events receiving increases in prize funds, alongside the introduction of new host venues.
Our flagship event, the PGA Professional Championship – taking place at Essex’s Ingrebourne Links in June - will grow from an £80,000 prize fund to £100,000, reflecting its importance in the tournament schedule. The Senior PGA Professional Championship will also see a revised prize fund, with players now competing for a share of £50,000. Set to take place at Moor Park Golf Club in Hertfordshire in May, the event demonstrates the growing popularity of senior golf, with the number of entries increasing almost 12% year-on-year.
The Welsh National PGA Championship will also receive a boost, with its prize fund doubling to £20,000. This historic event, which dates back to 1904, will be held at St Pierre Country Club in South Wales in September 2025.
The 2025 Open Series grows from seven events to nine and will also see the introduction of an Order of Merit for the first time. Each event will include a £20,000 prize fund with the Order of Merit adding a further £10,000. In addition to the prestigious Leeds Cup – now an Open Series event – there will be a ‘floating’ event that will be held in different regions each year. The series is open to all Members and will begin in April, as Didsbury Golf Club host the Northern event, before concluding in Ireland at Dundalk Golf Club in September.
August is all about Scotland, with two more new venues to be enjoyed in the remaining events; the PGA Super 60’s Championship played at Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa, as well as the PGA Fourball Championship at Strathmore, both offering players a chance to enjoy a more relaxed and social atmosphere. A week later, in late August, the Scottish PGA Championship will make its return to Scotscraig Golf Club for the second time in three years.
In October, Ingrebourne Links will host the PGA England & Wales Inter-County Championship as 30 teams will compete in a 36-hole team event on the first day of the month. The season concludes 10 days later with the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge, which returns to PGA National Italy, Argentario Golf & Wellness, for the fifth consecutive year.
Richard Barker, PGA Executive Director – Business Development, reflecting on the impact of the 2025 tournament schedule on PGA Members, said: "As we look ahead to the 2025 season, we're pleased to announce several changes to our national tournaments. The schedule features the introduction of fresh venues for some of our premier events, alongside an enhancement to the prize funds for three of our national tournaments – an approach outlined in June 2024 as part of our Tournament Strategy as we look to grow prize money.”
"We've launched this year's schedule in November - a month earlier than last year – in order to give players and counties more notice and time to plan. This earlier release is the result of a great deal of hard work, with the team collaborating to finalise the schedule ahead of time."
As part of The PGA’s new Tournament Strategy, a new Sponsorship Referral Scheme has also been introduced to support the financial sustainability of PGA tournaments.
