North Wiltshire Golf Club members will welcome captain Martin Fozzard’s participation in the final of the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge next week so they can get some respite from him talking about it.
Fozzard and the club’s head PGA Professional, Graham Laing have qualified for the final at Argentario Golf Resort & Spa, Italy.
The venue is the home of The PGA National, Italy, and the competition is supporting Prostate Cancer UK and carries a £22,000 prize fund.
The pair booked their places in it by winning a qualifier in August at Enville Golf Club, Staffordshire, and since then Fozzard has been on cloud nine.
“It’s definitely the highlight of my golfing career,” said Fozzard, a 15-handicapper who has been a member at North Wilts for 17 years.
“In fact, everyone at the golf club is fed up with hearing me go on about it!”
Fozzard and Laing will be up against nine other duos who qualified by winning other events across Great Britain and Ireland.
And should they win the members at North Wilts are likely to be treated to a description of every putt, drive and approach shot when Fozzard signs off from the captaincy.
“I’ve got my farewell dinner a week after we return from Italy and the AGM is a couple of days later,” he explained.
“I’ve left a gap in my speech headed ‘Tuscany’. Obviously, what I say depends on what we do there. But whatever happens this is the icing on the cake when it comes to my captaincy year.”
