Honours ended even at the Hayling Pro-Am with Sundridge Park’s Bob Cameron, Stoke Park’s Vanslow Phillips and Brokenhurst Manor’s Kevin Saunders shooting winning cards of three-under-par 68.

The southern trio edged out Lee-on-the-Solent’s James Ablett from winning his second event in two days and pocketed winning cheques of £808.

One stroke behind Ablett again was LeftHandedGolf@Silvermere’s Chris Gane on 70.

With Hayling’s links in fantastic condition, Cameron’s round was fault-free with birdies at the second, sixth and 10th, a great example of how to negotiate one of the toughest links on the south coast.

Phillips’ round was loaded with six birdies, but dropped shots at the fourth, fifth and 16th meant he was left in a tie.

Three-under after 15 holes, his bogey at the closing par three 16th nearly cost him the spot at the top of the leaderboard, but a terrific birdie at the final hole put him back in the winning frame.

Saunders had five birdies and an eagle at the par four 10th, but bogeys at the third, ninth, 13th and especially the 18th left him sharing pole position.

One-under at the turn, his eagle birdie at the 10th and 11th put him out in front on four-under-par. Bogey birdie at the 13th and 14th maintained the momentum, but that bogey on the final hole proved very expensive.

Speaking after his two-under-par round left him the runner up, Ablett commented: “My form’s good, I’m working hard, and the advice from my coach is reinforcing my confidence with the BMW PGA Championship coming up.

“Hayling’s a super links course in great condition with plenty of challenging shots to difficult greens, and the three winners deserve to be congratulated on their winning rounds.”
