On another glorious day of weather, three players came home with cards of 68 to split the prize fund and take home a cool £841 each.
Els commented: “Everyone agreed that Copthorne was in tip top condition and the greens were really good. The weather was yet again, ideal and from what I could see, all the players and teams had a great day’s golf.”
As usual, all three had different ways of making their scores. Nico Els (Professional Golf Tuition Breaks) had a flawless round with four birdies for his seventh win of 2019, while James Ford (Robert Rock Academy) had five birdies and the one bogey on the 18th (having started at the 10th) for what would be his third win of the year.
Adam Hickling (Stoneham) made it his ninth win of the season so far, and in his typically exciting style. Starting at the first with a birdie, he was three-under by the turn despite a dropped shot at the fifth. Pars followed until he birdied the 15th, bogeyed the 16th and then birdied the 17th to finish on four-under and grab a share of the podium.
Having been edged into fourth spot with a 70, Guy Woodman still led his amateurs to a two shot victory in the team event with a -18 tally.
