Jason Levermore (Little Channels Golf Centre), Glen Portelli (Old Fold Manor) and Rob Watson (Porters Park) shared top spot after a great day’s golf at The Shire Pro-Am.
The trio all shot four-under-par rounds of 68 to finish a shot ahead of a further three players who tied for fourth.
Portelli looked set to secure outright success after a wonderful run of four straight birdies around the turn helped him to five-under.
But he was unable to make further inroads and then dropped a shot at his final hole – the first – to slip back to four-under.
By contrast Watson finished with a real charge, making eagle at the par-five 13th (his 15th hole) followed by a birdie two at the 14th. That lifted him into a share of top spot and his first victory – albeit a joint one – on the 2019 East region schedule, although he also tied for first in an English PGA Championship qualifier at Ely back in May.
Levermore has now racked up seven pro-am wins in the East in his year as the region’s captain.
Matt Cousens (Bushey Hill) led the winning team on a combined tally of 128 – two strokes clear at the summit.
