Looking at the number of Members still using ‘AA’ and ‘A’ class designations, it is clear not all are aware of the renewed CPD system introduced in 2020, writes Mark Skinner, The PGA’s Head of Business and Management Department.
CPD is measured in terms of these standards, through which you can gain Accredited status:
- A set level of various forms of professional development activity (15 hours each year)
- Maintaining a true and accurate record of your professional development
- Retaining satisfactory evidence
- Taking part in an audit if requested
That may seem daunting, but the CPD recording function within PGA Learn enables you to do it all quickly and painlessly.
You are responsible for maintaining and submitting your own CPD records. As well as PGA-provided activity, you can add informal learning, such as networking, site visits, podcasts and webinars.
Why CPD?
In 2020, The PGA’s CPD system changed significantly and you were put in sole charge of your CPD records. You now decide what goes on your records and how much time you would like to attribute to each learning activity.
There are no longer any requirements for you to gain a set amount of CPD points that are only awarded for certain ‘accepted’ formal learning activities.
Listening to a podcast, reading an article in an industry magazine or shadowing a colleague at work are all valid ways of learning. This approach to CPD is not unique and is commonplace in most professional bodies. Valid CPD is now often viewed as anything that a Member chooses to report. This is based on the idea that professionals ‘ought’ to know what they need to do to keep up and develop as a professional., site visits, podcasts and webinars.
