Treleaven and Barnes lead the way at Woodcote Park

Mark Treleaven and Jonathan Barnes took the honours in the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship South qualifying event at Woodcote Park Golf Club.

Trealeaven (pictured on right), of Hayling Golf Club, teamed up with Oak Park’s Barnes (left) to record an eight-under-par round of 64 at the Surrey course.

That was enough to take the Hampshire pair top of the leaderboard by one shot ahead of three teams on seven-under.

Craig Cowper (Surrey Downs) and Neil Reilly (N Reilly Golf Consultant); Jordan Godwin (Barnehurst) and Ben Daniels (Horton Park); and Shaun Hall (American Golf) and Mark Dawe (Chilworth) all shot 65.

They will be joined by seven other qualifying pairs at the £33,250 BMW-supported final at St Mellion in Cornwall on August 20-22.

Treleaven and Barnes started their round well with two birdies.

But after a minor blip at the eight hole, they finished with five birdies in the last seven holes to pip their rivals.
