Three golfers shared the honours in the opening Midlands pro am of the year – the Mark Group Charity event at Birstall Golf Club.
Reigning Order of Merit champion Paul Streeter (Lincoln Golf Centre), Matthew Cort (Rothley Park GC) and Craig Swinburn (Riverbank Driving Range) all carded four-under par 66s to open the summer season in style.
And yet it was Market Harborough’s Neil Evans who looked to be cruising to the title until he dropped three shots over the final three holes to finish one shot adrift.
Streeter chalked up six birdies on the way to his 66 with Nottinghamshire’s Swinburn going one better.
Cort finished the strongest though with five birdies on the homeward nine to earn his share of the top prize.
Ian Lyner (Leicestershire GC) finished alongside Evans on three-under par while Little Aston’s Brian Rimmer eagled the 18th on his way to a one-under par 69.
