There was a triple tie at the top of the leaderboard in the Bedford and County Golf Club Pro-Am played in sweltering conditions.

Noel Quinn (Whipsnade Park), Daniel Coughlan (Wyke Green) and Stuart Brown (Orton Meadows - pictured) all signed for one-under-par 69.

Hot on their heels were Steven Vinnicombe, head professional from the host club, and Laurence Allen of Brookmans Park both on level par.

Scotsman Kevin Harrison (A1 Driving Range), Roger Tilley, Peter Phillips and Stuart Graves were best of the 18 teams with 13-under-par 127. Second team prize went to Roger Gray (Thorndon Park) with Peter Mutch, Alan Coles and Tim Coles at 12-under-par on count back from Caroline Grady (De Vere Dunston Hall) with Jack Norton, Norman Angus and Graham Baker.

The Bedford and County Golf Club, a parkland course, was established in 1912. It was their first pro-am for many years. They had golf writer Henry Longhurst as a junior member before he went to Cambridge University.
