A tense affair at Rochford Hundred Golf Club ended with a tie as three pros jostled for top position in the Essex PGA Winter League match.
David Wood (Orsett), Mark Hooper (The Rayleigh Club, above) and Matt Stables (North Weald) all signed for two-under-par rounds of 69 as the day drew to a close.
Chris Goddard of Romford was fourth with 70, while Colchester’s Mark Baker and Chris Cutchie were among a quartet with 72. Sat alongside them were Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) and Paul Grotier (Essex Golf and Country Club). Cutchie, still awaiting clearance to work in the United States, was leading trainee.
The historic James Braid-designed course at Rochford Hundred was opened in 1893. The club is best known for its club house, which was formerly home to Henry VIII’s second wife Anne Boleyn.
