David Dixon won the battle of the Davids by leading David Haines by one shot in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal at Naunton Downs.
Enmore Park’s Dixon (above) shot one-under-par 70 on a bright and mostly dry and breezy day over the Cotswolds course that has held up extremely well in the recent wet weather.
After a week playing in Spain, Dixon dropped an early shot and was out in one-over 36 but a steady back nine with seven pars and two birdies produced the lowest back nine of the day.
PGA Board member Haines (Brean) returned the only level par round of the day after a week away in Portugal. His score might have been improved but he dropped two shots were dropped on the 15th and 16th, holes offering two of the better birdie chances on the homeward run.
Bristol Golf Centre’s Giuseppe Licata was as steady as ever coming in third with a 72 so consolidating his spot on the top of the Total Triumph Order of Merit rankings. He gained valuable points over his pursuers.
Long Ashton’s Roy Holland and Haines shared the birdies sweep with four each and were relieved that Scott Thompson (Bleadon Hill), who made five, chose not to enter. Haines also took home the over 40's sweep.
