Ultimate risk-reward at CordeValle

04/09/2015

CordeValle (see video below) is set to pose the ultimate risk-reward arena for the forthcoming PGA Cup clash between Great Britain & Ireland and the United States.

Jon Bevan’s GB&I team go head to head with their transatlantic rivals from September 18-20 in what promises to be an exciting encounter with the two sides having tied at Slaley Hall two years ago.

The Robert Trent Jones Jnr designed course in Northern California has seen plenty of drama over the years not least when Rocco Mediate holed his second shot for eagle at the par 4- eighth hole in a play-off to win the Frys.com Open.

It also hosted the 2011 PGA Cup matches where the risk-reward nature of the course yielded some exciting golf – notably on America’s part who won by 17.5-8.5.

In a preview in the PGA of America magazine ahead of the 27th PGA Cup matches, Michael Marion, PGA director of golf operations and membership at the resort, commented: “The PGA Cup in 2011 underscored what a great match-pay course CordeValle can be.

“There are birdies and eagles to be made, but if you make a mistake in judgement or execution, there are also bogeys and double bogeys.”
