UPDATE - Clarification on coaching, driving ranges and retail operations (February 26)

26/02/2021

Following on from our communication earlier this week, we are now in a position to provide further clarification on coaching, driving ranges and retail operations in England when the process of golf reopening begins in March. The Government has announced a new four-step system which will come into place on Monday 8th March, with the date of Monday 29th March being the significant day upon which golf was resume in England.

Broadly, the main points are:

  • 12th April: Indoor coaching is permitted on 1-to-1 basis.
  • 17th May: Indoor coaching is permitted for groups of up six. Outdoor coaching for groups of up to 30 is permitted.

Retail

  • 8th March: Click & Collect service permitted with Covid-19 precautions in place
  • 12th April: Professional and retail shops may open, with Covid-19 precautions in place

Driving Ranges

  • 29th March: Outdoor driving ranges may be used*
  • 12th April: All driving ranges may open

*Some golf ranges can be classified as indoor settings but it would be for each facility to read and interpret the guidelines against their own venue and facility. If in doubt, contact your local authority who will be best placed to advise.

Fitting

  • 29th March: 1-to-1 fitting and small groups (following Rule of Six, including fitter) is permitted outdoors
  • 12th April: 1-to-1 fitting is permitted indoors
