Jamie Broce knows the USA are really going to have to work hard if they are to give themselves a chance of reclaiming the PGA Cup, which starts tomorrow at Foxhills Club and Resort.
Great Britain and Ireland won the renowned transatlantic match 13-5.12.5 when the two sides last contested the Llandudno Trophy at Cordevalle in California in 2015.
Broce, 40, said: “I definitely felt pressure at Cordevalle. We had a slight lead going into the singles matches and it was looking pretty good, then it was looking pretty bad, and then all of a sudden we almost pulled it off at the end.
“For us to come over here to reclaim the Cup, we are going to have to earn it. We’re not going to be able to back into anything.”
Broce is proud to have made his country’s PGA Cup side for the second time. But he knows that the honour brings responsibility.
He added: “Just having the opportunity to be there, you feel like it’s a lifetime achievement. To represent your country, to represent the PGA and your peers in a tournament like this, you can’t even describe it.
“Trying to make the team is one thing. Now, when you make the team, you qualify, you’re relieved, then all of a sudden now, there’s that pressure. You definitely feel that pressure.”
