Sarah Walton and Laura Harvey shared the honours in the WPGA One Day Series event at South Herts Golf Club.
Walton, of Herefordshire’s Kington Golf Club, and Harvey, from Cleveland Golf Club, both shot one-under-par rounds of 73 to top the leaderboard.
But although Thorpe Wood Golf Club’s Suzanne Dickens finished the day back in joint seventh, after carding 76, she still leads the WPGA Order of Merit with two rounds left.
Harvey is in third spot behind Claire Duffy (Test Valley Golf Club) with Walton fifth.
Walton admitted that it was her best performance in the competition this year.
And she would have won outright had it not been for a bogey at the 18th hole.
However, she also recorded an eagle at the ninth.
And Walton admitted she was looking for more consistency in her game.
“It was a bit of a mixed bag, there were some good scores in there and some blips,” she said.
“If I can get rid of the blips then I have a very good score in me,
‘But considering the amount of golf I’ve played this season, then it was a good day on an excellent course.
“It’s my best showing in the One Day Series this year.”
Walton wants to end the series on a high if possible.
“I wanted to try and compete in as many rounds as possible - and I’ve played in four out of five,” she added.
“There are two rounds left, but I can only play in one of them.
“I’ll be at Salisbury which is the next round, but unfortunately I won’t be able to play at Forest Pines.”
Amateur Charlotte Whyman, the Suffolk-based England Golf player, was joint fifth after recording a one-over-par round of 75.
