Warwickshire pair leave it late

Local lads Andrew Jones and Fred Jewsbury, pictured, left it late to grab a share of the winner’s cheque at the PGA in England (Midlands) Winter Betterball at The Welcombe Hotel and Golf Club.

In difficult playing conditions Jones, on top form all day long, superbly eagled the par-five 18^th for the duo to post a five-under-par 65 - enough to tie the Northants pairing of Simon Lilly and Paul Broadhurst at the top of the leaderboard.

Six birdies featured in their round but they were unable to produce the same finish as Jones, settling for just a par at the last.

The cross country pairing of Mark Butler (Penn) and Richard O'Hanlon (St Kews, Cornwall) shot a 67 to share third place with another Northants duo, Nick Soto and Shane Rose.
