Two South West children’s charities are set to benefit from a total of £11,300 thanks to the 2014/5 PGA Regional Captain’s charity fundraising.

Andrew March, Captain of The PGA in England & Wales (South West) in 2014/15 from Brean Golf Club, and The PGA in England and Wales (South West) regional secretary Glenn Ross from Minehead, jointly set up Tee Up 4 Tots.

Both had personal reasons for raising as much money as possible for their nominated charities, CLAPA (Cleft Lip and Palate Association),  the South West Cleft Team and Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton’s Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

March’s son Logan was born with a cleft lip and palate and has been receiving treatment at Bristol Children’s Hospital, along with significant support from both CLAPA and the South West Cleft Team.

Ross’s son Harry was born prematurely at just 2lb 10oz and required round-the-clock care at Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for eight weeks at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

The majority of the funds were raised at the Tee Up 4 Tots Pro-Am, held in August last year at Enmore Park Golf Club where over £6700 was raised. In addition to this special event, starting at the Cornish Festival in April each amateur in a pro-am was asked on the first tee to make a donation of £1.

Every player who scored a two during that round was entered into a draw to win some “money can’t buy” prizes. Ross even took to running a 10K charity run to raise further funds for their charity.

Ross said: “We exceeded our target of £10,000 thanks to the magnificent support of fellow PGA Professionals,  golfers, clubs and sponsors in the South West and Wales. We are thankful for their generous support.”

Incoming PGA Captain for 2015/16 Barry Sandry from Broome Manor GC in Wiltshire will also be fundraising this year with a special Captains Charity Pro-Am to be held on Tuesday 2nd June at the Wiltshire club. His benefitting charities will be The PGA Benevolent Fund and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. For details of the event or to make an entry click here: http://bit.ly/15-PGASWCaptCharityPro-Am
