West Lothian Golf Club captain John White says it is another string to their bow as they prepare to host the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge Scottish qualifying event for the first time.
White will partner PGA professional Alan Reid as the host duo for the event at the Linlithgow venue on August 7.
They will be hoping to reach the £22,000 final, staged in association with Golfplan, which takes place between November 6-7 in Spain at Arabella Golf Mallorca.
And six handicapper White says he is delighted that West Lothian has been given the honour of adding this competition to their list of events.
“It’s good to be hosting this event, it’s the first time we’ve had the Pro-Captain event,” he said.
“We hold the annual Scottish Young Professionals Championship and we’ve had that for more than 10 years, and two years ago we had the Scottish Under-16s Strokeplay event.
“I was vice-captain when we were offered this event last year, It was at Haggs Castle Golf Club and our Professional Alan is involved with the PGA - they were asked then if they would consider hosting it and he said yes.”
White says that the course has seen its fair share of rain compared to the rest of the UK.
“Some of it has been quite severe, but the course has needed it and now it looks lovely,” added the 55-year-old retired petro chemical industry worker
“We’ve been having a lot of compliments for the course. The reviews we get for it are fantastic. The views are amazing and one of the selling points of the course.”
Bo’ness-based White has been a member at West Lothian Golf Club since 1973 when he was 10 years old and is in first 12 months of a two year stint as Captain.
