Giuseppe Licata returned to the course he knows best to win his sixth Gloucester and Somerset PGA Winter Series medal with a one-over-par round of 71 at Filton.
The Bristol Golf Centre pro played his amateur golf at the club and invariably fares well on his return. But, like the other 30 players, he found it tough and no-one broke par on a sunny day although recent rain meant hitting the fairways was essential.
He finished two shots clear of Ed Goodwin (Cirencester), his nearest challenger in the Total Triumph Order of Merit, and amateur Nigel Gravell (Players Club).
Licata opened with a birdie at the short first hole but only picked up one more shot at the par-five 14th, making bogeys at the sixth, ninth and 13th.
Goodwin was level par after 11 holes before he made a double bogey at the 12th and dropped another shot at the home hole. He shared the Over 40’s sweep with Nigel Gravell.
Another amateur Matt Kippen (Enmore Park) claimed fourth on 74, one ahead of Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs), George Ryall (Players), Lee Corfield (Burnham and Berrow) and David Morris (Bells Hotel Forest of Dean) who shared the birdie sweep with Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) on four.
