Veteran George Ryall recorded his second Gloucester and Somerset PGA win of the season with a one-under-par round on the Channel course at Burnham & Berrow.
“This is one of my favourite courses,” said the 60-year-old Mendip Spring teaching professional who was recently attached to Burnham.
He was the only player to beat par with 37 Stableford points, one clear of previous week’s winner Ross Langdon (Brickhampton Court).
The early calm gave way to rain and a strengthening wind as Ryall carded four birdies, including three in succession from the fourth. Missed short putts cost him shots on the final two holes.
Although Langdon made an eagle at the fourth and added three birdies he just failed to catch Ryall.
Somerset amateur Matt Kippen (Enmore Park) took third with 35 two ahead of Cotswold Edge’s Kristian Crane and Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin.
G&S PGA captain Paul Gravell (Players Club), Luke Gaskins (Brickhampton Court) and Shane Kaye shared the final prize money with 32 points.
Total Triumph Order of Merit leader Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury) suffered a final hole disaster to drop out of the top ten on the day and allow Ryall to close the gap to 17 points.
