Winwood hits the right notes at Bentley

Adam Winwood (Brentwood Park Golf Range) shot five-under-par 67 to take a slender advantage at the end of the first day of the Marstons East Anglian Open Championship.

Winwood made six birdies in his opening round at Bentley to open up a one-shot lead from James Watts (Kingsway Golf Centre). 

Mark Davis (Thorndon Park) and Craig Housden (Little Channels Golf Centre) are a further shot back in the second Marstons Order of Merit event of the season. 

Winwood, regional trainees champion three seasons ago, made three birdies in his opening nine holes before a solitary blip ta the tenth. 

But he came back strongly with birdies at 12 and 13 before making a further gain on 17. 

Watts, who won a regional Qualifying School, in early spring produced another fine round. He too carded just one bogey, answered by five birdies.
