Great Britain & Ireland adapting to new surroundings

22/10/2019

All throughout the first Women's PGA Cup, Captain Tracy Loveys will be providing a daily update from inside the Great Britain & Ireland camp at Barton Creek Resort in Austin Texas.

After a long and exhausting day's travel out to Austin on Monday, followed by a team meal not long after arrival, which was hosted by PGA Chief Executive Robert Maxfield, our first practice round started on Tuesday morning.

Glorious blue skies and temperatures of around 27 degrees greeted us - slightly to different to home of late!

The format for our tournament is 54 hole strokeplay with five nations taking part in this inaugural event. Alongside Great Britain & Ireland we have the United States, Canada, Australia and Sweden. Each day the best three scores from the team of five will be taken towards the team total and, after three days, the team with the lowest score will be declared the winners.

As this is strokeplay, there was plenty of discussion amongst the team during their first practice round with regards to strategy. When to attack? When to lay up? Plenty of chipping and putting practice was done too as we had heard from the men's Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup team that, with Bermuda grass around the edges of the greens and that the greens were also very grainy, short game is where this event will be won and lost.

My team are very excited about this whole experience but, there's a lot of nerves in there too. I'm sure that when their first tee shot is struck on Thursday morning and they finally get going, these nerves will settle down. But before that happens, there's the opportunity of another practice round to finalise their strategy.
