There’s no stopping Michael Watson in his present form as the Wessex Golf Centre player pulled off his eight win this month with a spectacular seven-under-par round of 65 at Parkstone.

It was his fourth success in five outings in seven days and he only missed a big prize in the fifth pro-am at Remedy Oak because of one bad shot that led to a quadruple bogey nine at the 17th hole.

As the first player out on a beautiful morning, he covered the opening nine holes in four-under 32 after birdies at the third, fourth, sixth and seventh. After his solitary bogey at the 10th, he picked up further shots at 13, 14, 16 and 17.

Former Wells, Wheathill and Mendip professional John Goymer is playing virtually full time this summer and he achieved his best finish this season two shots behind on 67. He dropped his only shot at the seventh and weighed in with birdies at the first, third, fifth, 10th, 12th, 14th and 16th holes.

He was also able to lead home the winning team on 18-under-par 126, two better than Andrew Windsor (Ferndown) with James Pickard (Honiton) a further shot behind in third.

Home professional Martyn Thompson threatened to run away with the scoring after making five successive birdies from the third after dropping a shot on the opening hole. Another shot went at the 10th, he regained it at 17, and settled for a share of third on 68.

He was joined later by 2013 PGA Cup team member Nick Brennan (Bowood) whose steady round included birdies at six, seven, 11, 12 and 16 and only one bogey at the par five ninth.

Visiting player Alan Lovelace (Merrist Wood College) was the only player in the field to produce a blemish-free round, making three birdies in his three-under 69 to share fifth with Brian Lee (Parc Golf Academy) and another South region visitor David Osborn (West Hill).
