Woodman hits Westcoast jackpot at Bearwood

ProAgenda.com’s Guy Woodman took the winner’s £10,000 first prize cheque in winning the Westcoast Pro-Am at Bearwood Lakes. 

In the biggest pro-am on The PGA in England (South) schedule, it was a who’s who of names on the leaderboard at Bearwood Lakes. Carding 67, Woodman finished two strokes ahead of five other players, each taking home cheques for £1,200.

Speaking after notching up his seventh win in 2018, Woodman said: "It’s always a strong field because everyone wants to win the Westcoast Pro-Am, so I’m obviously delighted to win, again.

"I had some issues with my back, but that meant that I had to play within myself. The dry weather made the course shorter, of course, but the greens were fast and true so I putted well. I was still expecting someone else to come in with a lower score.”

Woodman’s round opened well with three birdies in his first five holes. Three-under at the turn, his back nine was a genuine roller coaster ride: he bogeyed the 10^th, birdied the 11^th and then bogeyed the 12^th and 13^th to be back in the pack on one-under.

Then a deuce at the short 14^th inspired Woodman to three more birdies on the trot, and a par on the 18^th was all he needed to card his two stroke victory.

The runners up on 69 were: Sittingbourne’s Peter Appleyard, the European Tour’s James Heath, the new PGA Surrey Open champion from Left Handed Golf at Silvermere Chris Gane, PGA Cup star from Golf at Goodwood’s Chris McDonnell, and Midland raider from the De Vere Staverton Estate, Simon Lilly.
