Golf clubs across Worcestershire are to be supported in their efforts to encourage more young people to take up the sport.

The Worcestershire and Herefordshire County Golf Partnership has teamed up with the Golf Foundation to host a Junior Golf Conference next month.

The event – which is open to all clubs in the county – will provide valuable information and advice on how to create a welcoming environment for young people to enjoy their golf.

The conference takes place at Kings Norton Golf Club on Wednesday 12 February at 5.30pm, and it is hoped that both golf professionals and the volunteer junior organisers will attend.

Alan Beard, development officer for the CGP, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for those involved in junior golf to further develop their club’s own section as well as being offered a clear understanding of the support that is available in developing young golfers along a pathway that could take them from grass roots beginner to potential county player of the future.

“The aim should be to give every child the chance to progress as far as their skill and enthusiasm will take them.

“The conference is also a chance to update clubs on the latest ideas and initiatives to encourage young people into the sport and about how golf clubs can go out into their local community and work with partners such as schools, youth clubs and other associations. The conference will also include details of potential funding for clubs as they develop their junior sections.”

He added: “By taking the time to develop a proactive and positive approach to junior golf, a club is also taking steps towards protecting its own long-term future.”

Alan Beard will be joined at the conference by Jason Sorrell, from the Golf Foundation.
